"Not many groups can boast two virtuoso guitarists as The Jon Spear Band does and few can match the writing skill of Jon Spear and Dara James obviously a first class band that know precisely how to play together."

 Peter Merrett, PBS 106.7FM, Melbourne

The Jon Spear Band can be adventurous in its musical tastes but never strays very far from its blues roots, which provides the foundation for the band's music.  Nominated by Blues Blast Magazine  for the prestigious best Live Blues Recording of 2016 award, all four of the Jon Spear Band’s CDs have charted in the US, France, UK, Spain, and Australia and have been listed on the annual top 100 Roots Music Report Contemporary Blues Chart for the past three consecutive years.  The band has opened for nationally touring acts including Debbie Davies, Delbert McClinton, Anson Funderburgh,  the Iguanas, the Chris Duarte Group, Memphis Gold, and more, and competed competed in the 31st and 33rd International Blues Challenge in Memphis, TN

Based in Central Virginia, the band's members are Jon Spear (guitar and vocals), Andy Burdetsky (bass), John Stubblefield (drums) and Dara James (lead vocals and guitar plus harmonica).

UPCOMING SHOWS

We're very pleased and excited by the response to our 4th album which was released on December 5th 2021, with 11 original songs.  The album has charted in Europe and the U.S. ever since and attracted some sweet reviews.

  • "This album never takes a bad step." -- Living Blues, May 2021

  • “Yet another outstanding release by the Jon Spear Band.  Having already garnered a Blues Blast Award Nomination back in 2016, I'm thinking "B-Side Of My Life" is not only worthy of repeating that, but opening some eyes of the Blues Music Award nominators, as well.” –  Peter "Blewzzman" Lauro © November 2021, Blues Editor @ www.Mary4Music.com. 2011 "Keeping The Blues Alive" Award Recipient

  • “The band gives every song a full load of thrills.” – Southland Blues E-Weekly, January 2022

  • “All the album’s songs become a real example of the varied palette of sounds and the vibrant colors the band develops with commitment and a lot of charisma, in a kind of music that could be defined like actual rock-blues with a touch of funk, r&r, soul and Americana.”  – La Hora del Blues (Spain) Review, January 2021

  • “[T]he most recent release, B-Side Of My Life, by Jon Spear Band is a solid rocker with pop tunes and Blues roots. ... This is a cool release with a lot of flavor.” Bman’s Blues Report, Thursday, December 30, 2021

  • “The title track is a quick history of some of the vagaries of record business history set to a cracking rock and roll beat and with some fine blues harmonica from lead vocalist Dara James and pumping piano from guest Skip Haga.  Good stuff!” –  Blues Matters CD Review, December 2021

  • “There is no doubt that Jon Spear Band (JSB) is definitely turning a new page in their professional career with this album, revealing their musical breadth and opening some new vistas for all of us who love good and quality music, and it's so good!”  -- Sound Guardian (Croatia), December 3, 2021

  • “This fun-loving collection of B-sides from the Jon Spear Band is bound to bring joy to its listeners, if not a spot on the top of the charts…” – Roots Time Belgium
